 Anna Mary Matég Bëhm

Anna Mary Matég was born on June 1, 1822 at Bezenoma, Bohemia, Czechoslovakia.

     Anna Mary Matég married Matthew Matég circa 1846 at Bohemia, Czechoslovakia. She and Joseph Bëhm immigrated in 1853 to New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, traveling arriving by ship. She was also known as Metta. She married Joseph Bëhm on June 16, 1857 at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, St. Louis, Missouri; witnesses were Matthew Czerny and Martin Faletka. The certificate states: "Joseph Böhm, merchant, son of farmer and Mary Matig, daughter of Matthew Matig, farmer in pago Brzehane, Bohemia." St. John's Parish was one of the earliest parishes formed to serve the Catholic population of northwestern Jefferson County. In 1859 the foundation was laid for the church of St. John at the Latin Gate. The first church was a log building opened on May 6, 1861 to serve the Bohemian settlers of the Rock Creek area.

    She was enumerated with Henry Matthew Böhm on the between June 5, 1900 and June 7, 1900 U.S. Census at Bonhomme Township, St. Louis County, Missouri, U.S.A, Anna was a 78 year old widowed white female born in April 1822 in Germany (actually was in Bohemia). Both her parents were born in Germany. She was living with her son, Henry and his wife.

    She died on July 24, 1901 in Missouri, at age 79. She was buried in July 1901 at St. John's Catholic Church, Rock Creek, Jefferson County, Missouri, inscription on her tombstone reads "wife of Joseph Bëhm." Rock Creek Road is off Highway 30 (Gravois Road) near High Ridge. Cemetery is about 3 miles east of Highway 30. The church burned prior to 1998. The school was still standing in 1998 and was being used as a house. There are three sections in the cemetery; Joseph and Mary Bëhm are buried in the old section. Mary was married to Matthew Matëg, a farmer in Czechoslovakia who deserted her. She left Prague, Bohemia traveling through Budapest with her daughter, Mary Veronica and boarded a sailing ship for the United States. It was on the boat that she met Joe Boëhm.
